This is an “open-ended” recruitment pool, and as such the following should be noted:
- The panel will monitor this recruitment pool for applications, and will assess on a regular basis.
- Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments may be made when similar vacancies occur.
- Appointments may be made from this pool until 31/12/2013.
Successful applicants to this recruitment process may also be considered for placements at other WA Mental Health Services.

Position Profile: Do you wish to be a part of the new Specialist Aboriginal Mental Health Service (SAMHS), Department of Health, Western Australia?
SAMHS is offering exciting career opportunities for Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal people/professionals to work and engage with Aboriginal people and communities in a "Holistic" Whole of Family, Whole of Life service delivery model incorporating strong Aboriginal traditional and cultural elements within the medical model.
You will be a part of a Perth metropolitan-based multidisciplinary health team including:
- Psychiatry/Medical
- Nursing
- Psychology
- Social Work
- Indigenous Mental Health Professionals
- Welfare Officers
- Youth Workers and
- Aboriginal Traditional Healers/Aboriginal Elders.
You will work collaboratively with all service providers (Mainstream, Forensics, Corrective Services, Community Controlled, Non-Government and Private sectors) within the Social Emotional Well-Being and Mental Health Continuum.
SAMHS and the Department of Health WA are committed to creating a strong Indigenous Mental Health workforce.
Training opportunities exist where relevant for employees of this Service to encourage progression towards higher learning.
We require a pool of applicants to fill the roles of 4 Indigenous Mental Health Liaison Officers. We are seeking at least 1 male and 1 female Liaison Officer under Section 27(a) of the Equal Opportunity Act. These roles provide an important service liaising & negotiating with Aboriginal communities & health professionals in Western Australia for the development, planning and implementation of culturally appropriate Mental Health Services. You will provide counselling and support, community development, education and training services, and clinical/cultural consultancy to Health professionals / community based workers and other service providers. As an Indigenous Mental Health Liaison Officer, you will maintain small caseload of clients.
