An exciting opportunity exists to make a difference to the lives of vulnerable young people by being a part of the development of a primary health program.

The Adolescent Forensic Health Service at the Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) has recently revised our model of care to better meet the health needs of youth justice custodial clients. The Registered Nurse position at the Adolescent Forensic Health Service has a pivotal role in facilitating positive health outcomes for young people in custody and post release.

Your role will incorporate assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care for young people at Parkville Youth Justice Precinct. You will work within a multi-disciplinary team in the Primary Health Program and be required to collaboratively work with youth justice custodial staff. Health promotion and education is also a core component of the role.

To be successful in this role you will be a Registered Nurse with postgraduate qualifications and /or relevant experience in adolescent health, mental health or forensic health. You will also have the following skills and experience;
  • Highly developed clinical skills and an understanding of Primary Healthcare principles and service provision;
  • Ability to effectively engage young people;
  • Experience of working with young people with complex presentations including substance use and self harm;
  • Knowledge and awareness of adolescent development and gender specific issues, particularly in relation to vulnerable young people; and
  • Ability to work a multi-disciplinary team.
