Description:

The Ipswich Library and Information Service is a vibrant library service delivering a diverse range of programs and services to the Ipswich community across three branch libraries, a mobile library and a library website. In order to meet the challenges of a growing community and changing needs and trends, the library depends on the effective and innovative use of information technology to support service delivery.

The Ipswich Library and Information Service has a full time vacancy at the Ipswich Library branch for a Reference Librarian. This position is for a Librarian and will report to the Coordinator Information Services Delivery at the Ipswich Library. The successful applicant will have excellent customer service skills and proven experience in the development and delivery of information literacy programs. Within the position the librarian is required to undertake the following key responsibilities: assist customers with reference queries; develop and deliver information literacy sessions; assist customers with reader’s advisory and local history queries; apply tech-savvy skills to assist clients with a range of technologies, internet, and electronic resources; evaluate, select and develop library collections; and promote library programs to the community.

The successful applicant will posses:
  • High level of skill in an appropriate area of library/information service operations.
  • High level of interpersonal and communication skills to effectively liaise with and present a customer focused approach to internal and external client groups.
  • Extensive knowledge of reference sources, procedures and services.
  • Substantial knowledge of the operation and delivery of electronic information services including online database access and virtual library services.
  • Substantial skill in developing and delivering information literacy programs.
  • Substantial skill in operating independently and within a team environment.
This is a full time appointment working the Library Schedule, which includes some evening and weekend work. Salary range Level 3 - 5: $54,448 - $68,630 per annum dependent on skills and experience, plus employer superannuation of up to 12%.
